Just how does Google search work?

With over 60,000,000,000 (that’s trillion!) individual web pages the internet is a constantly growing behemoth.

Google has the search market pretty well sown up across the world. Globally Google are responsible for about 70.91% of all searches across the world, with the Chinese web services company Baidu in second place with 16.5%. The chart below gives you a greater breakdown, as you can see on a global scale neither Ask or Aol actually register.

As you can see from the chart above Google dominance over the year’s looks far from subsiding. However, have you ever wondered how it all works? Just how do the Google Elves ensure that it serves you the websites you are actually searching for.

Using a complicated web of algorithms, formulas and programs Google aim to deliver you the best possible results. Want to know more? Visit the Google web page ‘How Search Works‘ and it will take you step-by-step through the process (and it’s a lovely website as well!).
