lost Return of the Jedi footage

Watch 30 minutes of lost Return of the Jedi footage from the original cut

In the 1980′s Droid Works (a Lucasfilm spin-off company)  and the Convergence Corporation formed a joint venture and developed EditDroid.

EditDrioid was a computerised analog NLE (non-linear editing system) and created as an attempt to move away from analog editing methods and on to the more technologically advanced digital format.

Unfortunately the EditDroid system was never a commercial success and with only24 EditDroid systems produced the company was sold in the early 90′s.

In the Autumn of 2013 lost footage from the original cut of the Return of the Jedi started to appear online. The source of which pointed to the editing technology used by EditDroid.

Now, this 30 minutes of recovered film has been compiled and is available for your viewing pleasure on YouTube.

During this ‘lost’ footage you will see scenes between Luke and Yoda on Dagobah and it’s interesting to see the process involved in filming the interaction between the human actors and puppets.

Sit back, enjoy and see the footage for yourself…
